ITALY COACH TO QUIT AFTER 2014 WORLD CUP

Reports emanating from Italy today is that national team coach Cesare Prandelli will step down after the 2014 world cup in Brazil. After taking over from Marcello Lippi in 2008 after the country's disastrous outing at the 2010 world cup, Prandelli has transformed the team considerably and they currently sit atop their group B table ahead of Bulgaria with 14 points from 6 matches. In the 44 games he has been in charge so far, Italy have won 20 times, drew 14 times and lost 10 times. It is yet unknown the kind of effect it might have on the team if the reports eventually turn out to be true but speculations are already abound on who will succeed him with current Japan coach Alberto Zaccheroni being touted as a leading candidate. Also on the list are current AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri and erstwhile Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini.
