Former Germany international retires
Thomas Hitzlsperger has decided to bring to a close his footballing career at the age of 31 due to his inability to overcome persistent series of injuries. Hitzlsperger who has 52 caps and 6 goals for Germany was a part of the side which claimed third-place at the 2006 world cup and he was also part of the team that ended up as runners-up at the 2008 European championship. He played for Aston villa and Stuttgart where he won a bundesliga winners medal in 2007 before spells at Lazio, West-ham, Wolfsburg and Everton who let him go as a free agent at the end of the 2012-2013 season. Talking to Suddeutschen Zeitung he said "I've been sure about it for a few days that i won't be playing any more. My body has been giving me appropriate signals and i think it's enough." Although he claimed to have received several offers, he felt that he needed something else. Here's to a better life in retirement Thomas, good-luck to you.
